Gavin McNaughton and his family own Macplants Nursery - Berrybank - in East Lothian.

He joined the family business after studying biochemistry, which gave him the knowledge of how plants tick. He learned the rest from hands-on experience. His father Ian was an expert on gentians and bred many cultivars at the nursery. The family are well known exhibitors at Scottish shows.

Gavin will talk about both the story of the gentians bred by his father and the cultivation of Meconopsis, in which the nursery also specialises.

Macplants grows a large range of interesting plants, many not usually seen for sale, including the largest range of Meconopsis cultivars found anywhere. Gavin will be bringing plants from the nursery for sale after the talk.
