ONLINE LECTURE ONLY - ON TEAMS
This lecture will take us on a journey from the creation of the garden for Miss Ella Christie in 1908 following her travels to Japan, to its destruction by vandals in the 1960s, to the remarkable restoration which began in 2014, and then to the beautiful place we enjoy today. In addition to recent photos throughout the seasons, it will be illustrated by archive images from the early 20th century. As a volunteer guide since 2019, Jane leads groups around the garden, focussing on the history and design philosophy of this wonderful gem. Jane’s passion stems from a lifelong interest in gardening and a background in the sciences as a biology teacher in her early career.
